Nowadays, consumers will visit different channels to gather information about products before making a purchase decision. A simple description is not enough – images, videos, product sheets, etc. you will need to present more relevant information to attract and persuade consumers.Considering this, it is no surprise that GS1 will make it mandatory to attach product images to your product information. From the 10th of August, publishing product information to the GS1 datapools is only possible when you attach images to your products. To manage and publish your product images, you will need a Digital Asset Management (DAM)- system. This blog explains more about DAM and how our DAM-module works.
What is Digital Asset Management?
Digital Asset Management is a solution for managing and sharing digital files like images, documents, videos or presentations. In most cases, you will use DAM-software that operates as a centralised library. Just like a PIM-system, you will have access to all your digital assets. This enables you to collaborate more easily as product images are not scattered around the organisation.
You’ll often see that a DAM-system is separately used next to a PIM-system. This is not ideal as you need to work in two applications – and there is also the question of how you get something from your DAM-system to the GS1 datapools? Our PIM-systems have an integrated DAM-module which allows you to manage product images and efficiently link them to consumer units according to the requirements set by GS1.
How does the DAM-module of SRC-PIM works
When working with our DAM-module, you’ll only need to upload an image to a product item you want to publish to GS1. As the DAM-module is a part of SRC-PIM, all relevant attributes are automatically filled in according to the requirements set by GS1. One of the benefits of having an integrated DAM-module is that when you upload your data to GS1, the DAM-module ensures that the product image is uploaded as well, which means you will automatically meet the validations that will go into effect from the 10th of August.
Because our DAM-module is fully integrated, you are also possible to set up a meta-data model for other purposes. This means you can add your own attributes to any digital asset. To illustrate, when you work with multiple brands you can add ‘brand’ as an attribute to improve your brand management processes: the moment you upload an asset, users need to specify the brand. Our DAM-module automatically files the right assets in the correct brand collections.

Be aware that implementing our DAM-module in your organisation will affect your internal processes. Just like a PIM-system, it goes further than a technical implementation. A DAM will change the way your digital assets are managed throughout the organisation.
