4 must-have features for your PIM-system

With a PIM-system, you can process, enrich and publish your product data. But how do you get the most out of your PIM-system? Most PIM-systems have a lot of features that you can use for your data management. In this blog, we explain the four must-have features for your PIM-system.

Validation of data quality

When you publish data to different channels or if you are working with data standards such as GS1, ETIM or PS infood, you’ll probably need to validate whether your data quality meets the requirements for that specific channel. When publishing data to GS1, your data must be compliant with the requirements set by GS1. Otherwise, it is not possible to upload your data to any of their data pools.

PIM-systems like SRC-PIM have a built-in validation feature. With this functionality, you can check in real-time whether your data complies to specified requirements. When data is not correct before publishing, you will receive a notification that directs you directly to the attribute that needs correction. You even have to possibilities to validate data for different channels. Therefore, validations are shown for the channel you are currently working with. So when you are processing data for GS1, SRC-PIM will show you the corresponding validations for it.

Workflows

There is a significant chance that in your organisation, more than one department is responsible for processing product data. To coordinate this process, you want to assign certain tasks to specific departments. For example, your logistic department will take care of the data regarding product sizes, where the marketing department will add product images and reviews. With collaborative workflow features, departments can work together on the same data efficiently.

Digital Asset Management (DAM) module

When you are using your PIM-system to publish data to GS1 or your website, the use of product images is important. Regarding GS1, you can only publish product data to a GS1 data pool when all your products obtain an image. Therefore, your PIM-system needs to be able to manage and publish digital images. A DAM-module operates as a centralized library. You will have access to all your digital assets and can link images to the product in the PIM system; PIM and DAM are fully integrated.

Dataflow

When working with (product) data, you want to be sure that the right data is published to the right channels and business partners. We call this data flow. With the dataflow functionality of our PIM, suppliers (producers as well as wholesalers) can send data through data pools to their customers and channels like the website or for example a Point Of Sale system. Moreover, customers get precisely the data they want and into their systems. How does it work?  Dataflow connects to any ERP, PIM or other systems. Once it is connected, data flows from your systems to the required system. The dataflow automatically distributes the information to any target.
